SLICE OF HISTORY:
JOB CARR

Tacoma's First Non-Native Citizen

Farmer and Civil War veteran, Job Carr migrated to the Pacific Northwest from Iowa in 1863. He was the first non-native settler to stake claim to land in Tacoma. He built a cabin as his home and slowly a neighborhood was built around him. A replica of the cabin was erected in 2000 to commemorate this important figure in Tacoma history.
